And of course for proof of concept you will have to perform several trials

John: I've found you need to rinse and strain at least twice sometimes more.
It really depends on the number of flakes you've worked with that week and
how tarnished they were.

So let me get this right, you take your rinsed silver flake, add 180 proof
alchohol (shaken not stirred), drain the alcohol into a suitable vessel
(martini glass??)and then what add vermouth?.

So presumably to have to do this several times??

Actually John you're not far off in your Bud comment. After final DI rinse
follow with two alcohol rinses. One to displace the water and the second to
provide a fast evaporating rinse media when placed in the oven. Use a good
grade, electronic or above isopropyl alcohol. Better yet 190 proof ethanol
and start the weekend out right.

I guess havng removed it, the rinsing and drying wil have to be carefully
addressed to avoid re-oxodising the silver, maybe several agitated rinses in

DI water followed by heating in a nitrogen purged batch oven.

As for the rinsing material as it is Friday my suggestion for an alternate
is Bud light since it is absolutely tasteless/odorless...........8-)

In the US, I would send you down to your local supermarket to buy a bottle
of silver tarnish remover....

Another way to do this, depending on your situation is to find a mildly
alkaline detergent solution, and pour the silver flakes on to a piece of
aluminum foil, and immerse in the mildly alkaline detergent solution... this

will reduce the Silver oxide to silver metal...

Good luck, let us know if it worked.
