Good point...A good Subject Line should be sufficient.

I don't see the value in doing this. I can almost always tell whether the
e-mail is Fab or Assy related from the Subject line...

Fellows it has been suggested twice. Lets come to an agreement of
what to add to the subject line to make it easier for the times when we are
too busy to check all the e-mails, i.e. "Assy" for assembly questions,
"Fab", "Design", and so on. It will even help us to put the right type of
thinking cap for the specific question. It will attract more diversity and
cross train the willing. I used to fabricate ICs in semiconductors labs, not
boards. The languages are different but the technology is similar. So I am
learning the new language when someone ask a question in that subject of
board fabrication. So what do you say?
Lets come up with a consensus. The best way is to name a few techneters,
committee, that can exchange ideas and create acronyms for different
subject lines and we will all be benefited.

Good comments Rudy,
It seems the 'personality' of TechNet has changed somewhat over the years
that I have been subscribed to it, and as the industry has changed and
people have come and gone from the list server you find it go from pleasant
to hostile, helpful to very quiet... and many different moods come over
it...I don't think you can let that bother you. There is something to having
a common goal of excellence in design, manufacturing and assembly... it
binds the group together and broadens the whole experience base of the
entire group.

As you pass through life, you will touch many people at various stages in
their careers and their personal and professional development... If you can
help someone along the way, there's no telling how that little bit of
good-will might bounce from person to person.. I liked that movie with Kevin
Spacey where the kid in his class developed the 'Pay-it-forward'
philosophy... Pick 3 people that you can do something to help them out and
ask them not to do anything to pay you back, but for them to go find
3 more people and help them instead and require the same of them to Pay it
forward to 3 more, and so on... It's a great concept and if everyone did
that it could change the world.

I like TechNet... it's a great place to find help and give it...

My 2 cents... I'd like to see it continue.

I think the Fabricators can participate when they feel like it... we all
learn from them... and they learn from us too. If their info is good,
Designers want to come back and learn more... and use their services...
In fact I see more and more fabricators sending out speakers to IPC DC
events to talk with designers on a personal level and help them improve
their designs to improve the yields and simply the manufacturing processes
for the fabricators and assemblers.

We all win when people get the information they need to do their jobs
better. It's all good. Your participation makes it better!

Valerie St. Cyr put it very well... but there may be yet another factor,
which could almost be described as the "800 pound gorilla in the corner"
that no one wants to mention....

The fabricators, perhaps more than anyone in the world, are in a fight to
the death for survival, and not only does this mean they do not have time to
visit such things as technet, they may not have a whole lot of interest in
helping others (read "competitors") to do things which they have learned to
do, perhaps by as series of expensive errors.....

In fact, the amount of information passed around on Technet is slightly
astonishing, that it is done so easily, and freely.... I find it telling
that the participation on Technet does not reflect the national distribution
of PCB production... that is to say, the majority of the participants on
Technet come from cultures that are more open, and sharing...
