Franklin,

I will try to help. I have been let go from most recent board house lately
and don't check in everyday.

I don't know about controlled depth grinding/polishing.

To help hitting the centers of holes you can have the cam guys add a plated
trace on the centers of the line of coupon holes. Make it about 5 mils wide.
When you are down to the 600 or 1200 grit paper/cloth you should see the
plated line appear. Then put the coupon on the scopes to measure the diam of
the hole and decide if more is needed on the polisher.

For small holes we used to mix the mounting compound a little thin and
poured from one side to encourage flow into those holes. When centers of
holes are not supported by compound the metals are smeared and folded and
useless for interpretation.

You must also remember to keep the coupons identified correctly in the
coupon. One way is to place a small piece of paper on the pins after or
before the coupons are added to keep things straight.

Depending on the total quantity of coupons you anticipate polishing, $2500
-$4500 seems a decent price for the information/confirmation you will be
able to acquire.

Courtney Grimes is at Sturbridge Metallurgical in Mass. My last company
purchased a used struers Abrapol from him. It could polish 6 mounts at a
time, needed to swap paper to change to finer grits. It was significantly
more money than the quote you received.

As always I hope this helps.

area of Boston.

ps-apologies for the shameless plug
