Hi George,
I guess Lee and fit the category.
It is not that we are "continuously finding customers that have ENIG
problems" but the clients seek us out with solder joint problems some
of which--by far not the majority, involve ENIG/'Black Pad' [I do not
like that name either].

Werner,
I'm beginning to think you and Lee are both "Good-Old-Boys" who learned
a valuable lesson working at Bell labs; consulting is much easier with
those who have problems than those who don't. I don't think that
continuously finding customers that have ENIG problems makes you and Lee
the most unlucky individual on the planet. Actually you may be among
the most lucky individuals who have business come looking for you rather
than you looking for business.
Regards,
George

Hi Joel,
I do agree with Lee Parker. I am glad you had no problems with
ENIG--many of my cients were not this lucky.

Lee,
Good input that I agree with. However, I was wondering if you could
further discuss the "flash" vs. "ENIG" issue. I have been using ENIG on
my Pb-free assemblies for about 7 years with very little problems. If I
am missing something further education would be extremely helpful.
Thanks

After reflowing a soldered surface, you will form a meniscus which will
interfere with SMT component placement. To avoid the problem I suggest a
flat metal finish such as immersion silver or flash gold (not ENIG)

Hi technetters:
Is there a fine pitch limit to the use of HASL board
plating
finish due to its variation in thickness? Does selective solder strip
and reflow plating, SSSR, have a significant advantage over HASL? Any
comments relating to platting finish would be greatly appreciated. I
thank you for your comments.
