In a former life (1980s), I used to import the cheapest knitted cotton
gloves from China and sold them to my Swiss customers. The manufacturer
washed them after manufacture (the yarn was bleached before it came into
his factory). I did Contaminometer tests on each batch we received and
the ionics were surprisingly low (forget the figure but I think it was
less than 1 µg/cm² eq. NaCl). The price was so low that customers could
afford to throw them away whenever they became visibly contaminated or
snagged (their main disadvantage as they shed fibres when this
happened). These were very popular and I think I must have sold tens of
thousands of pairs with many repeat orders. Can't remember why I stopped
- think it may have been because the manufacturer upped his minimum
order to a million pairs or something like that! However, I must point
out that ESD is not an issue with cotton as the fibre is naturally
hygroscopic and charges will leak away in no time, even in a dry
atmosphere, from moisture absorbed from the underlying skin.

In a few cases, customers used them as an under-glove with ESD-proofed
plastic gloves on top for improved comfort.
