Now wait a minute. In addition to subtracting the weight of the solder,
you would also have to subtract the final weight of any adhesives used or
other such materials added during the manufacturing process. If you are
going to be very very precise, you would also have to bake the board out or
you have the amount of absorbed water. If your process is no-clean, what
is the weight of the flux left behind?

Your best suggestion was to take 10 component sets, weigh them, divide by
10. If you try to do it computationally, you will go nuts. Dewey tried it
once and look what happened to him. Though I must say the "decimal"
reference was priceless.

You know, every time I go away from the computer for a few hours and see 50
Technet messages I know that Dewey has once again led the group down the
path through the Forest of Silliness.

Like "I" can talk.......

You need to subtract the weight of the solder from the delta of the
assembly minus the pwb to get the true weight of the components.
May I ask why you are trying to determine this?

The weight of the populated PCB minus the weight of the bare PCB will
give you the total or combined weight of the components. But if you
want the weight of individual components, you're going have to actually
measure each one...:(

Subject: [TN] Okay, all you real smart guys.........

Can someone point me in the right direction on determining mass of
components of a PCB, knowing:

the weight of a bare PCB
the weight of a populated PCB
number of terminations
etc.

Who knows the formula?

TIA
