We have an APE Sniper. We reviewed several systems and although I and the
other Technician preferred the Ersa, we got the Sniper. It works pretty well
and they do have a free exchange for nozzles but there is no guarantee they
will have the correct size for exchange. And if you need a different size you
usually need it now, not next week. This has not been a problem for us yet.
The six nozzles that come with it ( your choice ) have been close enough in
size for us. We used to have an Airvac with a large assortment of nozzles
which worked for all kinds of SMT and additional nozzles could be made
locally if needed.
I liked the Ersa but only used it at the Demo. The Airvac I liked but did not
have bottom heaters. The Sniper so far has worked well for us on BGA and
other SMT. All of these companies will be happy to give demo's, just keep in
mind future requirements.

Subject: [TN] BGA Rework Station Recommendations

I've proposed to management that since we will need a BGA rework station
if/when we begin using BGAs, and since our current old pick and place
machines aren't up to the task, and that since our initial usage at first
will be low volume (5 to 10 per month) assemblies, that we look into
procuring the rework station and use it for the initial placement of the BGAs
after reflow (or maybe even carefully carry the placed assemblies to the
rework station, place the BGA, the carefully carry back to the oven for
reflow). Naturally, I got assigned the task of researching equipment and
making the recommendation.

Do you have any recommendations on what equipment would be best suited for
this, or what you have and what you like and don't like about it?

You can send replies offline if you would like.

Thanks,

Blair Hogg
