*       if the BGA is heated, it instantly starts working, but also starts
working if the BGA is frozen
*       it also works if we freeze the opposite side of the PCB

  Interesting. An older car my wife owned exhibited the same problem with
the speedometer. The speedometer never worked in normal weather, in the
spring time or fall. But it worked OK in the freezing winter, and the high
heat of summer. I tried replacing the speed sensor and checked the wiring.
Did not fix the problem. I believed the problem was due to an open type
condition within the flex board that connected the instruments on the back
of the dash board gauge assembly. The contraction in the winter made the
circuit, as well as the expansion in the summer. We had to declare the
vehicle as 'mileage unknown' when we got rid of it.
