Hi Ron,

Of course if you can afford to buy separate equipment, that would be best, but if not, you could test and qualify your existing equipment and prove that it is alright to clean both in the same system.

In my system, the filtration system prevents the solder spheres from being returned to the spray wands.   You might want to have separate holding fixtures to eliminate fixture contamination, but the solvent spray solvent could be tested to show it contains no metal whatsoever and goes along with my assumption (uh-oh) that Pb is insoluble in IPA.  This also assumes that you have no immersion at all in your equipment.

Personally I was confident in my equipment and did not bother to run this test as my system has submicron filtration of the spray solvent and doesn't even let the non metal components of paste be circulated.  At one point in time a corrective action made us prove that the stencil wash spray was not depositing a thin layer of flux on some connector contacts.......
