What he said. With GM, a designer was exempt (hourly) and a design engineer
was salary. Typically, design engineers had a degree, but it wasn't a
requirement. My division's been sold twice since we were GM, but that has
held true (I think). Hourly got OT but had a lower top end.

C.I.D. means you passed a specific test. Senior vs. this or that means
whatever the company you are at has decided it means, if anything. Usually
it's more related to a pay range than a person's ability/knowledge. How you
become eligible for consideration in a given pay range is usually a
carefully flexible thing, also.

Have a smurfy day,

P.S. The definition of 'expert' is 'all droopy now' (formerly pert)

I have a copy of the Tektronix PCB/IC Mask Designer job descriptions at
http://www.pcb-designer.com/ncbicmsk.pdf .

We don't have PCB Design Engineers (although we DO have one designer with a
BSEET) so I can't help you with that. Most places I have seen or been a
PCB
Designer was hourly and sometimes got overtime, a PCB Design Engineer was
salaried and got the same pay whether they worked 20 or 80 hours a week :)
We DO have CAD Engineers who use the same job description as all the other
engineers, and it's at http://www.pcb-designer.com/eng_matx.pdf .

Hopefully this helps you.

Subject: [DC] Difference between PCB designer and PCB design Engineer

All,

I am in debate with my Director, who is/was a mechanical Engineer,
over what the difference is between these two job descriptions. I believe
some
of our designers do the job design engineer and I want to prove it.

Does anyone have job descriptions etc on these. I am also trying
to rewrite our very weak current descriptions. We have 3 Senior designers
who all do the job differently and have different levels of experience. I
don't
feel you should have a title senior because you have been designing for
lots
of years. You could have lots of years of the same experience. You should
be titled Senior due to range of experience and level of that.

Sorry if I am ranting but this is important to me.
