Status of Proposed RoHS Exemption for Deca-BDE
On 2 September, the European Union's Council of Ministers voted on the
draft Commission proposal to exempt Deca-BDE from the RoHS Directive. A
majority of the votes cast were in favour of the Commission's proposal,
with more than twice the number of votes for than against the
Commission's recommendation. (Only 20% of the Member State votes were
opposed.)
The proposal was then sent back to the Commission on 7 September. Under
the relevant EU procedure, it is now up to the Commission to adopt its
proposed text. Industry is urging the Commission to adopt the exemption
as soon as possible and expects a Commission decision in October.
