Susan:

EN is difficult to use, requires high maintainance, and is expensive and slow, compared to electroplated Nickel.  However, that said, it also does not require an electrical connection, and it plates the sides of the traces, whereas electroplating is typically done with a photoresist on the board, and therefore the sides of the traces are usually not plated.

The bottom line is that if you can get away with electroplating, you usually will want to.
EN can almost always be substituted for electroplating, if you have to.
