It has been a while since I have worked with the nitty gritty details of
thermocouples, but I seem to recall that a thermocouple junction can be
attached to another metal and still work properly.  I don't remember the
exact reason, but it had something to do with the voltages produced by the 2
extra junctions cancelling each other out.  If someone has an Omega catalog,
maybe they could check there to see if it is discussed there.

Can you use a dissimilar metal alloy 
at the thermocouple junction without 
causing problems?  That just doesn't 
seem right to me.

thermal resistance and measurement accuracy) is to solder the thermo couple
to the measured pad using high temp solder. The tapes and adhesives shall be
used only as strain relievers.
