Hi Steve,

Thanks for the input. While "Pins" may not need to be cut per IPC,
(still waiting for comments on your email) we still need to cut the pins
because of electrical clearance between the pins and the housing.
Normally we would leave the pins at their original length but we just
don't have the room this time.

Ken,

A couple of notes about cutting phosphor bronze connector pins.
1. phosphor bronze does not take solder well, if at all. 
2. By definition, you do not cut pins, only leads. As such, they do not
have to be cut to meet maximum lead length.
I can honestly say I have not visited this issue in a number of years
and do NOT have a copy of J-STD-001 or 610 at hand. Will one of you
certified instructors please correct me if things have changed since
WS6536C.
