Hi Phil: Just for clarification "Gold Irradite" is more of a trade name than
a type of chromate coating. Actually the trade name is Iridite(typically
14-2)originally made by Allied-Kelite, now MacDermid. Use of the term "Gold"
probably signifies a heavier coating such as a class 1A as opposed to a
clear or class 3 coating.

As for replacements i.e. non hexavalent chrome(trivalent is still
acceptable)we have looked into a couple of suppliers. I'm not endorsing
either. One product is SafeGard CC from Sanchem Inc in Chicago Illinois
(312-733-6100). The other is CHEMIDIZE NCP from MacDermid Inc in Waterbury
CT (203-575-7500).

The real issue is if you are using it as a corrosion protective coating or a
base for painting.

Subject: [TN] Off Topic? - Hex Chrome plating replacements

Good morning,

I'm not sure if this is the right group to answer this, but here goes
anyway.

As we move forward with RoHS complaince the question of plating steel
and aluminum come up repeatedly. Currently we use Gold Irradite on our
aluminum and Yellow Chromate on steel.

What is the industry switching to? The clear versions of these?

Thanks in advance,

Phil
