what procedures are being used to verify adhesion of conformal coating over
no-clean solder paste? We use a moisture cure silicone. A few years ago
we had three of the major solder paste manufacturers perform SIR tests and
coating adhesion tests. Most tests referenced the ASTM-3359 which describes
cutting a cross hatch pattern in the coating and performing a tape peel
test. This procedure also has a classification ranking for the results. We
found that only one of the labs followed this procedure and the others had
either modified or developed a different test since silicone coating is
difficult to apply tape to. There was no issues with the acrylic coatings
tested. Two of the three labs used the IPC-B-24 test boards.

What proccess is a fair test for silicone coating adhesion? If ASTM-3359
is used what tape brand meets the specifications given.
