Genny,
When I was with Nortel and we used multiple CM's we did not tell them to
use only brand X, type Y, but we did make them pick from an approved
vendor list with approved materials. We tested for some combos - like
solder paste B with wave flux c and glue d, but as you can imagine,
there are too many combinations to test them all.

Subject: [TN] solder compatibility

For those of you that outsource your board stuffing to more than one
contractor...
We have 3-4 different CM's that we use for populating our boards.
Do you insist that they all use the same brand or type of solder
paste/bar solder, so that you can ensure compatibility with wire solder
used in house?
Or how do you determine if there will be compatibility issues?
Or do you not care as long as it is 63/37, or 62/36/2?
Does this become more critical with Pb free?
Do you have any difficulty getting different solder manufacturers to
agree to compatibility to one wire solder brand?
Or do you just use different wire solder based on who populated the
board?

Thanks.

Genny Gibbard
