        Hi Bruce:
        You need to know the torr pressure that you want to achieve and
the volume of gas displaced per minute. If you want silent pumps, look
for vacuum pumps for hospitals.
        Regards,

Also if you have compressed air I've used very successfully a vacuum
generator (basically uses compressed air and venture to create vacuum);
cheap and no electrical/moving parts.

One I use is at www.fiberglast.com; check for vacuum generator. Our
setup including valves, tubing, gauges, etc. ~150$.

Subject: [TN] vacuum pump for cross sections

I'm shopping for a decent pump to pull a vacuum in our Stuers Epovac
chamber (approx 1500 cc). Ideally it'd be reasonably quiet since it'll
only be 20 feet away.

Any cross-sectioners out there with a recommendation for / against pumps
they've used?
