Good Morning Guenter!

Ramon Dehoyos and I have the same type of station from a
companany named CCRCO. I have a CCR2000 station. You
can visit their web page at:

http://www.ccrco.com/

We needed the station here for a customer who gave us a
contract to upgrade over 2,000 assemblies that have been
built and conformal coated with a urethane coating.

The upgrade consisted of changing components out with
ones of different values...many were through-hole components.

We didn't want to burn through the urethane (which you can do)
when changing the components, because we didn't want to take
the chance of contaminating the PTH barrel with coating.

We didn't want to use a chemical stripper to remove the coating,
because anything you use that can strip urethane can also damage
the board if you're not careful. So we decided on the CCR station.

After looking at a few different stations, we decided this was the only
one that was designed and made from the ground up to specifically
remove conformal coating from printed circuit assemblies, and do so
with the lowest possible risk from any ESD damage...this is a really
good station.

....and no, I do not have any financial interest in the company.

Kind regards,

micro shot blasting? Sounds interesting. Do you have any reference where
these things can be bought?

Has anyone used one of the micro shot blasting systems for removal of
conformal coating?

I have some concerns about static and the residue left behind. We use
a
moisture cure silicone coating, so abrasion works well to remove it,
but the
dry powder in the air stream must produce high static charges and if it
is
not possible to wash the assembly the shot residue will be left
behind.
There are multiple different shot materials offered including walnut
shell,
plastic pellet, and sodium bicarbonate. Since powders are difficult to
remove from the soft silicone coating, are there any of these materials
that
a trace residue left behind would not cause reliability issues?
