I tried for years to conduct HALT tests. "No need" they said, and I
tried again and again to incorporate HALT into the R&D qualification
process.

Then came a customer, who required this in the contract. We made no
preparations and passed. 
"You see", they said, "we told you". 
"Well", I said, "The system is over-designed". 

But they already went away.
