Rule number 1 is NEVER use Fantastic or similar household cleaners.
They leave a film that is only removed using IPA and elbow grease. Most
of the major dry-erase marker manufacturer's also sell a special fluid
for washing the boards. The key here is making sure the night cleaning
crew only uses this special cleaner.

I use EXPO made by Sanford. It was designed to do this. Black markers
are
harder to clean. Green on a clean board comes off with the eraser. So
implement a Green process and be PC with the world and know that all the
marks you have made in your career are above board.

The one thing that I seem to remember about cleaning marker boards...
Waaaay back when - in another 'life'... I seem to remember that an
engineer
was proud of himself for 'discovering' a chemical that would clean even
the
most stubborn marker-ink - off of white boards.
Then he discovered that he had also taken off the white-board coating
that
made it erasable. He then had a 'permanent board', and anything that he
wrote with dry erase marker, permanently soaked into the now-porus
surface -
to remain forever.
Folks, be careful with these handy-dandy 'cleaning' tips.
I have never had much trouble with a little persistance and elbow-grease

in getting my marker board clean.

The persistence of this thread started to interest me. It seems that
it's
been really hard to find something good to clean whiteboards that have
old
dry erase markings on them. This is starting to look like a challenge to
me...
So I started to think of where we had a white board that had some old
markings on it, and see for myself how hard it is to clean it.
We have a dry erase whiteboard in the room where we keep our stencils.
There are some markings on it that I know have been on for at least a
year.
I then discovered that it IS hard to clean old dry erase markings
off...I
had never thought about it before.
I went through about 4 or 5 different cleaners we had around here, and
then
found one that seems to work fairly well. It's TechSpray's "Blue Shower
G3".
TechSpray PN # 1630-16S. I found that I needed to spray it on the area I
want to clean, and then quickly cover the area with a paper towel and
wipe
the area before it evaporates. Do small areas in this manner.
I was able to clean the board pretty effectively with the stuff.

Back when I was making bio-diesel, I was getting methanol at a racing
fuel
supplier.
(For bio-diesel, Methanol gets mixed with lye to create meth-oxide,
which
then gets mixed with waste vegetable oil. Once settled, you have a nice
fuel
for your diesel-engined vehicles. Great stuff! <wide grin>)
I was always under the impression that you didn't want to get very near
to
methanol... inhaling, or getting it on your skin, etc. Nasty stuff...
but I
might have been mis-informed. Regardless, be careful using methanol...
do
NOT mix it with other chemicals. Treat it with respect.

Now, where to get the methanol? VWR, Fischer, Columbus chemicals. Get
the
least expensive, all grades increase price significantly because the
contaminants are detrimental for analytical chemistry uses.
--> Five gallons of industrial grade methanol, purchased from whoever
sells
you virtually any other chemicals, should cost less than any quantitity
purchased from lab supply houses... it costs us $0.45/gallon in 55
gallon
drums.
I know it's not friday yet, but for trivias sake, what is the emergency
response for methyl alcohol poisoning?
