Mornin' Leland!

A company that I currently use for military lead forming and
gold lead tinning is Corfin Industries: http://www.corfin.com/

In the past, I had them recondition a bunch 240-pin QFP's that
we had to remove from assemblies and replace with older
datecode parts because of a die change in the new parts that
caused the assemblies not to function. Corfin did a great job!
If you call them at; (603) 893-9900 ask for Andy Bloom, and tell
him Steve said hi!

Another place you might try, even though I've had no experience
with them is; http://www.chipro.com/LeadConditioning.htm. Like I
said, I've never used them, so I can't comment on their work.

If the leads are only slightly bent, and you have an operator with
a keen eye and steady hand, you might consider getting a QFP
Lead Repair Kit. They're made by Weller and can be purchased
here:

TechNetters,

Every now and then we run across some expensive IC fine pitched QFP
components, primarily in trays, that have seen damage to their leads. This
is caused by handling issues, dropping, or bands breaking within resealed
bags that have been punctured somehow in the process.

Instead of throwing these away, can they actually be "reconditioned" by an
outside service at both a reasonable cost and to satisfy our Class 3
reliability requirements? I know that leads that have been truly mangled
are candidates for the can, but what about those that are only slightly
bent, putting the component outside of our coplanarity specs?

I hate to waste money, but I also have to make certain that any lead that
undergoes a corrective bend doesn't decide to fall off during customer
usage.

Could you please lend your professional thoughts and prior experience with
this?

Many thanks,

Leland Woodall
