The innerlayer registration is normally a measure of how well the drilled hole is registered to the pad or anti-pad. The purpose of the requirement is to insure that the barrel of the drilled hole is always some predetermined distance (an isolation guard band) from any adjacent active feature on that innerlayer. Consequently, what is an acceptable registration is determined by requiring the registration to guarantee that the isolation guard band is not invaded. The requirement is really for you and the designer to set not the supplier

Best regards

Subject: [TN] PCB layer registration question

  Technet,

I am looking for an acceptance criteria on PCB layer-to-layer registration. The pcb is 4 layer and 8x4". I was informed by our PCB vendor that they can conform to +/-0.005" and the pass/fail gate is no annular ring breakout. Can someone please confirm?

  Rgds,

  Peter
