If it was SOP to go back and treat the root cause rather than the symptom,
I don't think we'd have any politicians... Can you imagine what it'd be
like if they had to clearly relate the 'motivation behind the solution' to
us?

This is an interesting thread.

It completely floors me that we tend to treat the symptoms rather than
treat
the disease in this country...
Why we don't go back to the root of the problem or to the motivation behind
the solution completely evades my reasoning ability...

As far as I know, Tin/lead solder has been in use for a very, very long
time... with no documented ill effects. There is not one shred of evidence
that I have seen that has indicated the connection between electronics
products being put in land fills and lead poisoning or disease of fish,
fowl, animal or man... yet we are running headlong investing in a soldering
process that is absolutely worse than tin/lead soldering...much less
reliable, more costly, and for what?

Where is the hard evidence that this is needed or even wise? It is like you
said... the 'emperor's new clothes' syndrome....

I think some folks are in for a rude awakening...

I'm guessing Ramon has already been affected, I know we have, and are in
similar industries. Prices seem to be climbing for Pb materials - as
can be predicted by the reality of decreased volume production. And,
more importantly, component finishes are being changes - some times with
different part numbers, some times with notification as bogus as a "pb
free" sticker stuck on the side of the reel of parts.

Ah well. Buy the ticket, take the ride. Next thing they'll be banning
copper...

Hi Ramon,
it is that kind of thinking that gets us into trouble. Just because you
are
not exporting to the EU, or because your part of the industry is
exempt, does
NOT mean that you are not affected--YOU WILL BE AFFECTED. that is
because, you
will not be able to buy SnPb-parts.
