Thanks for the insight into who gets hurt and who doesn't in this future
scenario. The crazy thing is that we now have states on both coasts jumping
on the bandwagon trying to implement some sort of lead-free legislation, as
well as other parts of the world (notably Japan and now China - where a lot
of the world's poisoned detritus ends up anyway). It is unfortunate that
good, sound scientific data and corroborating evidence has taken a back seat
to anecdotal, self-serving "evidence" based on "junk science" (in some
cases) to support this environmental quest. If we're going to do something
to save our home planet, then let's do it based on unbiased studies of the
true effects of long-term exposure to the elements we see as harmful.

In essence, what it all distills down to is who is going to make the most
$$$ from the fallout of this change and who will derive the most political
gain by forcing this type of massive change on the world... It always comes
down to money and power in this type of world-wide movement. It's been
happening since before the pyramids were built... and will continue well
after all of us are lead-free dust...

That being said, I think we all owe Steve a debt of gratitude for offering
us a chance to read a really good piece on the whole issue - regardless of
the length - as it does pull together a LOT of the things discussed here and
in the IPC lead-free threads. Thanks Steve!

        Europeans are going to pay the bigger price since this change is
imposed on their land. Some companies that export to Europe will be
affected. Companies that export to other places and produce for internal
consumption should not be affected at all. Steve thanks for bringing this
good report to light. In the past excerpts of this article have been posted,
yes it takes a while to read it but it is good to know what scientist have
proven and it is known.

Mornin' Everyone!

Yesterday I had one of our test technicians come to me and
ask if I knew of any good reference articles about the pro's and
cons of Lead-free solders.

He's doing a assignment in his college class about manufacturing
processes. I first went on my rant about how mis-guided this whole
thing is, and then told him that I was sure I could find him some good
references.

I did a search and found one that I had never seen before, and after
reading it, I think it's the best one I've read. Go to:
