Good Morning Kathy!

We usually go by what's called out on our customers fab drawing.
After all, they know better than anyone else what the critical dimensions
are, depending on what next higher level assembly the board assembly
is going to be used in.

Like you, I too have never seen an IPC spec that tells you how to measure
board thickness. I don't think there could be one written without a lot of
conflicts
occuring because of the assembly end-use.

Seeing how it's Friday, I've posted a new video clip on my page at:

http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com and look at; "Lil Jason.wmv".

Due to his posting about me earlier in the week concerning furlongs,
footlongs,
and fortnights, I have to retort by placing this video clip of Jason in his
earlier
years...hehehe.

Have a great weekend!

Kind regards,

Dear Technetters:

I am looking for an IPC guideline for measuring the overall thickness of a
bare PCB. Several independent customer specs I have read list the
measurement to be taken over the metal surface (metal to metal or mask to
mask), and that is certainly what I am familiar with. But I have been
challenged. I have searched and been unable to find a method or requirement
in my IPC A-600, 6012, and Test Methods. Also, I wonder if I could get your
inputs on how you all would measure bare board thickness.

Thank you,

K. Bergman
