Hi Denise, IPC LF Listservers,

Denise, What I thought might work and create a small short term dialog with
this list would be a complete FAQ, i.e an FAQ with answers. Create this
list as if you were the expert on RoHS, Pb-free, and MSL ratings via JEDEC,
IPC, ,

Believe it or not, we as a group can still argue and learn from such a
dialog. Don't worry if you are wrong or slightly off initially.

Let me reformulate your note and give some examples, in case you wish to
continue.

<=====
<OK....Well, here's just a few FAQ from the MSL Presentations we've had to
start off with....>
<
<1) When we have an order of parts in stock that are sealed and a person
needs, say 4 parts for example, how do we deal with that?>

FAQ-01 If I as a manufacturer have the above condition is it perfectly OK
to open the specially sealed bag, , and then never reseal the original bag?

Yes, If you monitor and assemble in a low humidity area and will use these
parts before the humidity increases it is perfectly OK.

No in general, The ability of the remaining parts to uptake humidity
internally becomes a difficulty. When they go through the SMT or Wave
Soldering processs outgassing easily can occur. This is like boiling a pot
of water in a covered pan.

As a reference please read JEDEC-

2) The usual relative humidity (RH) is around 60%, do we always see that
humidity?

I don't think I know how to make this an FAQ since in Arizona versus Oregon
or Spokane, WA (the high desert) the prevalent humidity is quite different.

3) Why are we doing this?

FAQ-02 What does this funny term MSL mean and why is it so important?

4) Can we stick packages in a MCDRY Cabinet when they are not sealed?

FAQ-03 If I as a manufacturer open a sealed package and then place the
remaining parts in a MCDRY cabinet will they be good forever.

Yes, they will last 55.423 years and solder perfectly with no defects to
any plastic packages once they are soldered.

FAQ-04 What is the length of time a sealed package with an MSL rating lasts.

----------------------
Anyway you get the idea, from my fooling around.

Formulate a Question, Give a complete best as possible answer, and see if
the LF Listservers agree or have qualifications for either the FAQ question
or the FAQ answer.

Doing one FAQ at a time is a good idea.
