Suganthi,
ATE is a generic name for tools that are intended to expedite the
testing of hardware or software products.
Example: if you have an analog circuit that, while testing it, you have
to inject a certain voltage level, then to read the output with a
voltmeter and oscilloscope, the test may require a lot of personnel time
to be performed. Furthermore, the operator may mistake, and, for
instance, approve a circuit that the reading is not in the
specifications. A solution may be to build a setup that includes a
digitally-controlled voltage source, voltmeter and oscilloscope, and
connect them all to a computer. The computer will program the voltage
source to the needed level, then read the voltmeter and oscilloscope,
and check the readout versus the values stated in the test program. The
operator, in this case, shall only make the connections to the Unit
Under Test and route the product according to the results.
