Bev: It depends. :>)
If you are using water soluble paste you should remove it as soon as
possible. The higher activity level of the flux starts to react with the OSP
coating.
If you are using no-clean it's not as critical. However we remove(wash)the
no-clean paste as soon as practical.
Also it's important that the boards are thoroughly dried after wash. You
don't want wet/damp boards sitting around with an OSP coating.

We've held boards for up to a month after washing paste and did not
experience any solderabilty or activation issues using ENTEK 106A+

Subject: [TN] Washing OSP boards

TechNetters,
If one were to wash misprinted OSP boards would it be worse to
a) leave the solder paste on 4 hours and then wash and use right away
or
b) wash right away and then let sit four hours before reprinting and
reflowing

I looked in the archives, but didn't find anything that was particularly
helpful.

This is a general question so I can't give solvent, wash time (and thus
amount of OSP left). So, Doug P., don't give me "it depends" as an
answer!

Bev
