So if you miss the deadline your last chance went up in smoke?

Seriously, the 2-18 committee (RoHS et al reporting standards document for
hazardous materials) is meeting face to face at the end of this week in New
Orleans to finalize the first Rev. of the reporting standards before
official release to the IPC web site on June 1.

Now would be a good time to review the draft documents etc. before it gets
finalized. Here is the link:

The Future of Flame Retardants in the Electronics Industry: Is My FR-4
Laminate Ok?

Wednesday, May 18, 2005
9:00 am - 10:00 am (Central Time)
10:00 am - 11:00 am (Eastern Time)
16:00 - 17:00 (Central European Time)

$75 IPC/Soldertec Members $125 Non-members

The European Union's Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) includes a
ban on the use of two brominated flame retardants currently used by the
global electronics industry.

Join this IPC/Soldertec`s webcast to learn about the implications of the
WEEE and RoHS Directives for the electronics industry with regard to usage
of brominated flame retardants and which alternative systems are available
for use in housings, printed circuit boards and other components used in
electrical and electronic products.

Whether you have a compliance plan in place or are just getting started, you
will find this webcast a quick and convenient way to get up to speed with
this often forgotten portion of the RoHS directive.

Topics to be Covered

Which materials are being banned?
Outline of the EU legislative process for brominated flame retardants
Understanding the level of restrictions.
What products are covered by RoHS?
What are the implications of the WEEE Directive?
Where are brominated flame retardants commonly found?
What alternative systems are available?
What questions should I be asking my suppliers?
What techniques are used to identify the banned materials?

This webcast will be led by Dr. Paul Cusack, chemicals division manager for
Tin Technology, UK. Paul graduated from Imperial College London in August
1977, with a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Chemistry. Since then, he has been
employed by Tin Technology Limited (formerly the International Tin Research
Institute), working primarily on the development of new and existing
industrial applications of tin chemicals. During this period, he obtained
his Ph.D. degree from the University of London for work on tin-based flame
retardants and smoke suppressants. He has authored over 100 technical papers
on fundamental and applied aspects of tin chemistry and has undertaken and
led projects in a wide range of areas including fire retardants, catalysts,
pigments, ion exchangers, composite materials, conductive powders and
colloidal sol - gel technology.

The webcast will begin at 9:00 am (Central Time), 10:00 am (Eastern Time)
and 16:00 (Central Europe Time). Visit
