Hi Genny, , , Phil, Rick, IPC LF Listservers,

Another add, to what already are good additions to that Feb 2005 tread.

I faced a similar problem when striving to implement simple statistical
analysis techniques, or following ISO 9001 documents in this one company.
BTW I lost that battle, and I believe I would have even lost if I could
find a "dollars and cents" "pounds and pence" article.

Beyond my original suggestion of bringing in your outside distributors,
service people, , (which I still think is a good idea to add muscle) the
best I have come up with in my memory banks beyond IPC's LF listservers
notes, Tin-Kay's marking sub list, and a few other places is to have your
R&D team do a Scenario Walk About. R&D guys/gals love this stuff.

At the heart of this problem is how and when R&D or your company decides on
a new part number versus an E/C, ECN, etc to an existing P/N.

Reliability, Availability, Servicability or RAS, and Functionality come to
mind.

Yours in Engineering, Dave
YiEngr, MA/NY DDave

P.S. I hate the change since it is so much work in R&D, yet R&D and front
end documentation is the best place to make the change more through for the
entire organization.
