IPC is not a government agency; IPC is not a charity;
IPC is a * trade association *. What it can do within
the realm of its' mission statement is pretty wide
open - the direction and specifics are set by those
who spend time working on the committees.
All you have to do to join a committee is send an
email. Every committee has a link to it's own
directory; and from that directory you can email
the chairman, the IPC coordinator ... you can
look at the meeting minutes (if they had a meeting,
took minutes and posted them... depends on the
volunteer base); and any drafts of standards that
are in the works.
Not every member agrees with every turn or
activity of "the IPC" - but that can't be avoided.
Generally speaking, the governing structure
seems to bring something to the industry
that most of the independent players in the
industry value, in one sense or another.
You really can't capture the whole IPC and paint it one
color with one brush. ....
ps: I've belonged to other trade associations, such as
the Institute for Supply Management, and they all have
little enterprises on the side to bring in funds; that's
just the way it is.
Our Mission
IPC is a United States-based trade association dedicated to furthering the
competitive excellence and financial success of its members worldwide, who
are participants in the electronic interconnect industry.
In pursuit of these objectives, IPC will devote resources to management
improvement and technology enhancement programs, the creation of relevant
standards, protection of the environment, and pertinent government
relations.
IPC encourages the active participation of all its members in these
activities and commits to full cooperation with all related national and
international organizations.
Adopted April 17, 1991
Standards Policies/Position Statements
It is the position of IPC's Technical Activities Executive Committee
(TAEC) that the use and implementation of IPC publications is voluntary
and is part of a relationship entered into by customer and supplier.
Adopted October 6, 1998
