Unfortunately, this is scandalous and is quadruply contributing to
climate change:
1) burning the branches and other detritus prematurely releases
sequestered carbon
2) burning the branches and other detritus creates particulate matter
which absorbs solar radiation
3) eliminating the trees reduces the quantity of atmospheric carbon that
can be sequestered
4) cultivating soya and other crops increases the amount of methane
emissions, much worse than CO2
Worse, this trend is aggravated by RoHS, because Brazil is a major
producer of tin from alluvial deposits, requiring forest clearance to
obtain. We, in the electronics industry, are a partial cause of this
problem, aided and abetted by the EU, as electronics solder is a major
tin consumer, and the EU have caused the consumption to increase by 50%
for no more reason than the war in Iraq was needed to eliminate WMDs.
Damn all politicians who understand nothing!!!
