WHAT!

SPEND MONEY!

Absolutely NO chance of getting the boss to agree to that.
Heck, we are still on Office 97.
Say no more.

;-)

        Hi Mathew:
Hire a software tech contractor. He will set it up in a format that works for you. It should not take some Access savvy long to create the software that you need.
        Just a thought.

OMG Rich,
You'll have me drooling at the mouth.

That's something I have been toying with for years & not been able to do.
Not knowing enough about MS Access or having the necessary resources/time I kept giving up & my bosses version was even worse than mine 8-)

I created an ECN system using Microsoft Access. Extremely flexible and
yet provides all the necessary record information you could want. Our
ECN is accessible from our intranet, has one touch button e-mail
capabilities, prints a hard copy report, prints to a pdf if desired,
etc...

The ECN records are an extremely important part of our business.

Regards,

Rich

Not the dreaded ECN.

I have just finished scanning in & converting 2000+ to PDF (now that was
a long job).

These should be the official company record of ALL changes to a product
& it's manufacturing methods.

People leave, die or plain forget, an ECN will keep the info for years
beyond the life of the product.

They can be simple hand written notes or complicated computer generated
forms etc.
As long as an ECN is used to record all changes to the product.

Now that I have them all in PDF format & accessible over our intranet,
it is very easy for people to view them when they look at a products
history on the main computer database (which could be another place to
keep them I suppose).

ECN = Engineering Change Notice, the official document that authorizes a
change to an Engineering document, e.g. assembly drawing, schematic,
etc. Used as part of the change control process. Required by military
and ISO9000.
