Never heard of brasage tendre??? I've spent hours discussing the
terminology in France and most Frenchmen north of Dole and East of
Rennes really do their nut at any other expression. La soudure, for
them, is welding and soudage didn't even exist until 1989 when le Petit
Robert reintroduced the word into the dictionary, to their chagrin, even
though it was current from 1489 to the mid-19th century (again, for
welding, not soldering). All the ISO normes use brasage tendre, see
http://www.iso.org/iso/fr/stdsdevelopment/tc/tclist/TechnicalCommitteeStandardsListPage.TechnicalCommitteeStandardsList?COMMID=1714
(you'll probably have to reconstitute this long URL over the lines)

So, you can now educate the Québecois in le français académique :-)

As far as I know, the other parts of France and all the rest of the
francophone countries use le soudage for the act of soldering or the
joint and la soudure for the alloy, but also for the joint.
