A true Frenchman, especially if he were a snob, would never, ever, talk 
about soudure or soudage for soldering. This is left to the country 
hicks in Belgium, Switzerland and Québec. He would talk about "brasage 
tendre". By extension, the verb "to solder" should then become "braser 
tendrement" :-)

More seriously, the same applies to many forums and lists, not just TN. 
On one netlist I frequent, a guy sent in a question in French, 
apologising that his English was not up to writing it. I replied to him 
in French, which is my second language, and received a barrage of 
redneck rants for my pains, because I dared give some info in a language 
that was all but understandable to these ignorant people. This racism 
hardly incites anyone to write in any language other than English. And 
if you don't feel your English is up to it????
