That would be 0.1% by weight of that homogeonous material being tested.
So if you make the whole assembly lead free, and then solder in one
component with a homogeonous 63/37 eutectic alloy it is going to fail since
that particular homogeonous material has 37% lead.
The weight of the equipment actuall has nothing to do with it.

Dear one and all,
Quick question for you in terms of the RoHS directive and the restriction on
lead.
It says that products have a permitted level of 0.1% by weight.
But my question is, "weight of what?". Is that weight of the whole unit, or
as I'm suspecting weight of the substance/individual component that contains
the lead?
