agree. We had a p-p with an odd behaviour: up and then, components just disappeared. We scratched our heads and knees, creeping under the machine to look for the vanished creeps. Finally, a guy decided to go to the bottom with the mystery, and he started disassemble the machine. In a non inspectable part of the machine he found a plate full of chips, hundreds of them, electrostatically catched by the paint of a plate.

I see a conductive surface as superior to a "dissipative" one, although not
as cosmetically acceptable in your case.

Subject: [TN] Machine surface treatment for ESD and good looks

I have an issue concerning worn out machine surface coatings. I have a
MyData that has what looks like a conversion coating on the Y-Wagon that has
worn through to a near shiny metal surface. This same kind of coating has
been applied to other machines and like the Mydata, they are also worn out.
The problem with this is that the surface has become conductive and now has
a direct path to ground. When the machine was new, the coating had created a
disipative surface. I want to restore this original effect of a disapative
surface and possibly restore the lovely lustre of the original finish.
Anyone out there been down this road?
