Late again...
I just have a little query for the more informed than me:
I have vague memories about MIL 883, plating integrity, corrosion testing,
salt spray and stuff like that.
This be OK?

Regards

Mike

Steve - If truely a metal to metal weld, and not soldered, then I will also
agree that this may only be a cosmetic issue.

We also used seam welders to reflow solder Au-Sn 'combo lids', so the use of
this equipment [alone] does not necessarily mean it is welded. Your
supplier should know his process, but I like Bill's suggestion.

We used to de-lid reflowed lids by sliding a single edge razor blade between
the lid and the package seal surface. If you can not do this easily - it is
likely welded. Good news!

Steve

Steve,

You've got the answers to your question.

Is this vendor willing to put the answer in writing? If so, you are in
great shape.

Too often I've found vendors willing to bend but unwilling to put it
writing. In the age of suing everyone, who could blame them.

Hi Steve,

These are for a class-3 military application. This is a oscillator
M55310/19-BO3A40000
made by XSIS Electronics (they're out my way in Shawnee, Kansas).

I called them and they said they should be fine. The lid is welded with a
seam sealer and
there is no solder used, is what I was told.

Steve,

I would add a degree of caution here. Many of the good ol' high temp
co-fired LCC's used gold-tin [80/20] for sealing of the lid to the
package.

If you immerse the gold-tin into normal tin bearing solder, eventually
your
package seal will be compromised.

I would lean to the side of WHAT your QA people are saying, but not
BECAUSE
of what they are saying and reject these units. .... but then I do not
know what the application is either ... Likely not to use them in Mil
product

Just my two bits

Subject: [TN] Solder on top of LCCC

Happy Friday All Ya'll!!

We have some LCCC's that needed gold removal, and we did them here
in house manually. The lady that I had doing this was really careful, but
she
got some solder on top of a few of them.

QA was wanting to scrap them because of "solder contamination". I disagree
that they should be scrapped. I can't find any spec that says they need to
be
scrapped. You can still read the part numbers, and there are no solder
shorts
from the castellations to the top. Go to:

http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com

and look at "Solder on LCCC", and tell me what you think....these are
$50.00 ea.
and I don't want to scrap them if I don't have to.

Kind regards,
