Google is good, as well as Yahoo, but sometimes they don't answer at all on my q, then I use to try
any of these: AltaVista, webcrawler, entireweb.com, free.fr, Lycos, Metacrawler, Tiscali, Wanadoo, Windseek, Overture, FindWhat, AskJeeves and About.
AltaVista is probably my favorite before Google and Yahoo. But, if you search on typical US things, some seems to be superior in speed. E.g. I searched for class Spruance destroyer and got following times to result:
Yahoo 0.08 seconds!
Google 0.29 seconds
AltaVista 0.65 seconds
Windseek 1.6 seconds
TiscaliUK 2.2 seconds
etc
I tried old electron tube EL803, special version for MIL use in the 50th, made by Mullard or Philips
Yahoo 0.01 seconds!
Google 0.33 seconds
AltaVista 0.46 seconds
Windseek 1.79 seconds
TiscaliUK 2.2 seconds
So, Yahoo seems to be the fastest of all....
As a comparison french Wanadoo did not find EL-803 at all!
I wrote 'Corquois' a very, very small french village I lived in one summer.
Yahoo 0.02 seconds!
Wanadoo did not find it all. And I used the french Wanadoo
