Ted,
You will find mil specs and the IPC specs in general agreement that most
conformal coatings should be applied in the range of 1-5 mils of thickness,
or 0.5 mils if you are using Parylene. If you start to go thicker than
this, you start to get problems arising from the cure dynamics (entrapped
solvents) which can result in poor adhesion, bubbling, that sort of thing.

Hi all,

We need to apply conformal coating to one of our
products. Is there a standard in the industry that
specify the material and the thickness? I guess Mil
Spec might have a standard out there, but don't know
what spec number. I would appreicate if someone
provide some guidelines or a spec number. Thanks all
in advance.

Ted
