Doing this testing will give them an answer to the question: "Will our products
have acceptable reliability if SnPb components accidentally make their way onto
our Pb-free products?"

This may be a consideration for companies who find out that a reel of Pb
components got onto their product during assembly. They could potentially make
the decision to ship this product into markets that do not have RoHS compliance
requirements if the reliability was acceptable.

Just a thought...
Vince

SMT - will the SnPb parts survive the e
SMT or thru hole or mix?

SMT - will the SnPb parts survive the elevated reflow temp for Pb-F?

Thru - you'll contaminate your Pb-F bath with lead

Nothing really stopping you though but don't see it proves much unless
everything is Pb-F/RohS compliant and process compliant.

Japanense "Green leaf" products were/are I believe built this way when
Pb-F parts were not available.

Chris

Subject: [LF] soldering SnPb components with lead free solder

Leadfree netters,
I have a customer who wants us to build a board to help him validate
lead free. He has a partial mix of components (some are lead free,
others are SnPb). Would it be ok to solder the SnPb components using
lead free solder? I know and understand the product will not be RoHS
compliant, but this is for internal study and not to be marketed.
thanks,
Larry
