Hi Kay, IPC LF Listservers,

Thanks Kay, When reading the word "practical" in the UK (GB) wording
it does seem to be a bit more soft than "exceptional cases" which is
in the Directive.

So I can see where marking the product, at the top level where it is
humanly readable is the best approach.

The smallest size of this symbol that is still humanly readable by
most of the population should end up being specified someplace.

Hi Dave
I dont have a particular opinion - but in this case it seems the
Commission feels that the text of point 2 of the EN (european) standard
is not in line with the Directive requirements.

Hi Kay, Chris, Dan, , , IPC LF Listservers,

Kay, The UK's Point 2 that you refer to should be a mirror of WEEE and
should come from WEEE Article 10 $3 "exceptional cases". I am thinking
of small watches, tiny thermometers, .

Do you see that the UK's rules, as presently stated, have been too easy
for the manufacturers (in member state producers) to ignore the
"exceptional cases" wording in the WEEE Directive.

<The UK standard is published but point (2) is actually under challenge.
Best to mark the product itself. Kay> <

The appliance - the end product used by the consumer.

UK draft regs say:

which he places on the market on or after 13th August 2005 with the
symbol in Schedule 5.

(2) Where it is not practicable for a producer to mark a product as set
out in paragraph (1), the
