Genny, I'll ask Steve for a special favour. If he accepts, you'll see two pictures on
Big Boy. Think you'll feel a shiver of fascination. Imagine that your grandfather or so
could build such monsters. Look at the men aside, look like dwarfs. This is part of your
country's history...(no,no not the dwarfs..)
If you still get no locomotive feelings, I'll call your husband and
ask him to take you to nearest BigBoy museum...ho-ho...
Think the netters have had enough of trains now...

Ingemar

On our honeymoon, my husband took us to see a whole bunch of old steam
engines...we have more pictures of trains than of us from our honeymoon. So
this seems to be a common affliction, this love of trains.....

think he said near Baltimore. No, according to my friend, who saw the train,
there were six smoke pillars, so all six must have been engaged. I have a
book written by two american guys with a great heart for trains. They took
one year free from their jobs, and travelled around the world for just one
purpose. No women, no luxury, no business, just trains and taking pics of
engines. In the book there is one of few preserved pictures of the biggest
steam engine in the world ever : US-made Big Boy.

Sorry for taking TN time with this topic, but sometimes I get enough of Lead
and boards. End here.

thx

Many variables here, Ingemar,

Was the train going up a hill? Traveling in a congested area or an area
where track condition is poor where the speed is limited? Were two of the 6
engines freewheeling (going along for the ride just to get somewhere else)?

Fine! I just have to get into the discussion another way. We have some train
enthusiasts here (build models). One day there was a great discussion that
was
heard a long distance. How many diesel engines can be used in a Detroit
car train? One said maximum two. Another four. On top of that, one guy said
he had personally seen 6 engines pulling a one kilometer long train that
moved
not faster than you jog. Who was right?
