I use a tool by CAD Design Software that runs on top of AutoCAD
http://www.cad-design.com/. They offer an RF Design package that may be the
one your thinking about. A large number of my customers are small to mid
size companies and they almost all seem to be able to import/export data in
DWG/DXF/RS-274X formats.

I've got several of their products, Automatic Schematic Capture, Flex
Designer Suite, Impedance Calculator, Design Rule Check, etc, but not the RF
module.

I've got to agree with the others, most tools can do the job. It's really a
matter of knowing how to use the tool and understanding the application.

It's funny... I did many microwave circuits using AutoCAD in years gone by
for the very reason that there was not a good tool with the resolution or
capability to create the shapes and details required to do the layout...

Libra was the tool we used to simulate printed components and exported it to
dxf and then into AutoCAD to get the actual geometries into the layout...
The issues with not having a design rules checker were daunting, and having
to check everything by hand took some time but we got it done. Where there
is a will...etc.

Libra is made by Agilent EEsof EDA...

I seem to recall another AutoCAD based package called AutoBoard that used to
do digital design and netlisting etc... with an AutoCAD 'shell' program. And
I seem to recall an RF program based on AutoCad but I can't recall the name
of it anymore... it had libraries of RF circuits and was supposed to work
with Touchtone simulation tools to create them... but it has been awhile
since I had to deal with those issues as we use Protel for all out layout
needs here. No Microwave work is being done at this place, it's all HF and
VHF communications equipment bound by similar but different rules and
requirements.

I agree, being able to inter the correct numbers for sim's means you
understand what is going on. We use one software for layout and another for
simulation, each is a net license version. I do not know of a software with
the knowledge built in.

Ed,

When it comes to doing an RF board design, it's not the software that
counts, it's the person driving the software.

If you understand RF, you can use anything, but if you don't understand RF,
no software will be able to help you.
