Hi BOSE-Dan, IPC LF Listservers,

Hey Tin's Kay is a mettallurrist, and I believe we have a few more like our
soldering suppliers.

<--- Your note clipped a bit
3. Within the meaning of this Directive, 'cadmium
plating' means any deposit or coating of metallic
cadmium on a metallic surface.

Are there applications of cadmium being applied onto other substrates
which would be considered plating? or is plating strictly metal to
metal?
<-----------

Spray Coating of atomized metal onto plastics might still be called plating
by some and would be written up and discussed in plating magazines like
Plating and Finishing and others.

Hey Maybe we have an Auto Engineer, an Appliance Engineer, or A ?? that
might want to jump into this listserve.

For the second part of your question, as to whether cadmium would be done
via Spray Coating or other techniques, I have no idea since it would have
to be a metal mixture. It could be in the fastener business.

Yours in Engineering, Dave
Y i Engr, MA/NY DDave

P.S. Powder Metalurgy techniques if done with Cadmium would get around this
definition completely
