Hi IPC's DavidB, Chris, Werner, IPC LF Listservers,
I am still following this note series, as I hope you are and wanted to
comment on a portion of your note.
<All FR-4 laminates are RoHS compliant. The flame retardant used in FR-4
is not a prohibited chemical under RoHS. This is a common
misunderstanding.>
As I think about what I have seen, the new laminates that are being used in
the Lead Free arena are not in all cases true FR-4, FR-5, G-10, G-11 etc.
Different adhesives are being used is only one example.
What has happened is that FR-4 has become a generic name misused for an
Adhesive-Glass laminate structure and sometimes is even used for the
Phenolic-Paper laminates.
