I like the way Mary Sudgen describes the function of a layout
engineer/designer....

Layout is the hub of a wagon wheel....tying the spokes of electrical
function, mechanical parameters, fabrication constraints, assembly
requirements, and test applications all together to create a perfect
unit.

In other words, 'ya gotta know about the whole product to make it right.
And, it is of the utmost importance that we all work and play well
together.

I think that's why we PCB designers are such 'strange animals' in the
working world... most of us who do this for a living have some artistic
ability, some musical ability, some mechanical ability, a sense of order
in the midst of chaos, a sense of humor about the absurdity we deal
with, some ability to solve puzzles, a bit of the nerd but not too
nerdy... a bit of the cool but not too cool... we sort of bridge the gap
between the extremes and bring it all together into a masterpiece of
technological, artistic, functionality that makes it possible for the
people of our time to enjoy all the great electronic gadgets they do...

Hail to the PCB designer... may our 'ilk' not become too rare... for
the world would loose out on some really great stuff and great people
too... You all are awesome... you can find none finer in the world.

Salud! (Cheers!)
