. . . FYI there's an opening for a temp position building mentor libraries in
michigan -- $45-50/hr. 3-mos. or so . . .

<snip>

Is it just my imagination, or does Mentor require much more "building libraries" and
"making components", both for Schematic and PCB, than other systems.

As I remember when we ordered VeriBest when it first came out, it had virtually no
libraries of any kind whatsoever, beyond what came with the "Example PCB", and it
was hell trying to learn how to do it back there in the days of their being on the
Bently Microstation platform.

I know that they improved somewhat with the Expidition and Pinacle stuff, and I
would assume something better since they were bought out by Mentor, but are they
really any better in the long run.

I guess what I really should be asking is why anyone woud have hire someone to spend
3 months "building libraries" for anything.

That seems somewhat intolerable to me.

I mean you could completely input the entire 7351 "standard library" into the
original "Tango" (if it would hold it) by typing in coordinates in text, in less
time than that.

Am I the only one that thinks that that is too much time for "building libraries" in
this day and age.

Is this some "special library" for hitherto unknown components?

Just what kind if of "libraries" does Mentor come with, and how hard is it to make a
Schematic or PCB Component?

For that matter, just what kind if of "libraries" do other systems come with, and
how hard is it to make a Schematic or PCB Component for them?

Has anyone really ever really addressed this issue?

Maybe I should restate that, and first say that it is not my intent to offend
anyone.

Has anyone who was not in a position of loosing sales or advertising revenue ever
really addressed this issue in depth ?

I mean we all have our own biases, and our own personal favorites, but I for one
would be interested in knowing just how todays different systems really stack up in
this and other areas.

It would be real interesting to conduct a "Top Gun" contest, where each person would
be given a "random" software suite that they had never operated before, with no
component libraries (Schematic or PCB), and they would have to start completely from
scratch to build all relevant libraries and then do both the Schematic and PCB.

How long would that contest last with a design of moderate complexity?

I guess that's enough stirring the pot for one email . . .
