I disagree with your statement that PCB design is a "waste" of engineering
talent, unless the only boards you do are no-brainer connect-the-dots junk.
I'm an engineer, and I love solving these puzzles.
I DON'T enjoy creating schematics.
Is Caterpillar "wasting" me?

Karl brings up a point that really hits home with me. I see a lot of job
listings for engineers that actually include PCB layout. Seems like a
waste of engineering talent in all but the smallest companies. Although
it's not as bad as the designer add that asked for 2 years of design
experience and 4 years of Allegro.
